SVM 3000

The SVM 3000 Stabinger Viscometer measures the dynamic viscosity and density of oils and fuels according to ASTM D7042. From this result, the viscometer automatically calculates the kinematic viscosity and delivers measurement results which comply with ISO 3104 or ASTM D445.

Benefits of SVM 3000 at Jet fuel

While several parameters of jet fuel are measured to define its properties, its kinematic viscosity is determined mainly for safety reasons. Nozzles producing a fine spray of droplets inject the jet fuel into the combustion section of a turbine engine under high pressure. If the fuel’s viscosity is too high, the droplet mist is not fine enough, which can cause problems when relighting the engine in flight. The viscosity also influences the pressure drop in the fuel lines: the higher the viscosity, the greater the pressure drop throughout the lines. Consequently, the fuel pump must work harder to uphold a constant fuel flow rate. The result is early wear of the pump.

SVM 3000 is an ideal solution for this application, as precise low temperature measurements can be done easily and cheaply compared to other techniques. SVM 3000 complies with ASTM D7042.
